The successful academic monograph series is going from strength to strength, after the announcement that Red Coat, Green Machine: Continuity in Change in the British Army 1700 to 2000 by Charles Kirke has made the shortlist for the Longman/History Today Book of the Year award, as we prepare to publish a number of exciting new titles in the series.
Edited by Professor Gary Sheffield of Birmingham University, UK, and Dr Dan Todman of Queen Mary, University of London, UK, the series features works of original historical research in the area of History and War Studies. The works cover all aspects of war in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the focus primarily, but not exclusively on the British experience.
Stephen Badsey’s The British Army in Battle and Its Image 1914-18, Jim Storr’s The Human Face of War and the aforementioned Red Coat, Green Machine have already established the series as one of original thinking and imperious scholarly research. In the months to come, Gary Sheffield and Peter Gray’s Changing War, Neville Parton’s The Evolution and Impact of Royal Air Force Doctrine 1919-1939, Simon Godfrey’s Front Line Communications in the British Army, 1919-1945 and Peter Gray’s Leadership, The Direction and Legitimacy of the RAF Bomber Offensive from Inception to 1945 will see the Birmingham War Studies series build on its already sterling reputation.
